Rob Machado goes behind the lens for exhibit

May 11, 2012

Machado signed autographs and mingled with fans May 5 at the launch of his debut photography exhibit at Bliss 101, a coastal art gallery and home décor boutique in Encinitas.

As far as formal training, Machado only has a 7th grade photography class under his belt. Instead he gained an intuitive understanding of composition and technique after borrowing cameras on surf trips.

CARDIFF: Local Schools focus on healthy eating

Cafeteria workers at Cardiff's two elementary schools have started sneaking pureed vegetables into familiar lunches as part of an effort to encourage students to pick more healthy foods.

Of course, parents and some of the kids know about the hidden veggies, but students said they still enjoy the lunchtime favorites such as macaroni and cheese, tacos and burritos.

2009 Environmental Awards

In January of 2009 during Inaugural week, Rob was honored by Planet Green and the Water Council of Brazil with the "One Degree Less" award for his involvement in the Water Innovation Now (WIN) contest, which challenged 500,000 kids to develop innovative ways to conserve our water as a result of Southern California's water crisis.

In April 2009, the Oceana Institute, an organization dedicated to protecting the world's oceans, awarded Rob the "Project Save Our Surf" award for his dedication to environmental activism in Southern California.
